TREND ALERT: SPORTY, CHIC AND SLEEK

To the masses, the combination of sports and fashion would most probably come across as the most obvious of juxtapositions. And how can you really blame them? Fashion is mostly about presentation, appearances, persona etc. Whereas sport is all about getting down and dirty, the grit, the sweat. Its just as alike as chalk and cheese right? Well not entirely true.

Sport has always played a major role in shaping fashion and clothes. It first began in the 80s, with the FILA tracksuits and Adidas shoes appearing in almost every hip hop music video. It continued till the mid 2000s and then simmered down from there, but never really completely vanished. Gradually, it kept evolving through brands like Sportmax, Lacoste, Marc Jacobs and Marni.

Back in the day, when it came to sporty fashion, people were all about obvious choices, i.e. teaming baseball caps with track pants, basketball jerseys big sneakers etc. It was all about garish excess. Not that it wasn't a hit, there were ways in which it worked.

Flash forward to 2014 and what you see on almost every runway (especially for Spring and Summer) are collections whose entire spirit and core are based on the basis of sport. It literally embodies the whole concept of sport and comfort. But, it is done in such a relaxed and minimalist way that the clothes give off the aura of luxury and modernity. Made for the fashionista  that prefers the relaxed yet edgy look. Nylon, neoprene, mesh and other edgy fabrics combines with softer materials such as silk and satin give it a minimal yet modern and ultra chic look appreciated by fashionistas everywhere.
